
We were out wading a flat of tailing bones when this one fell to my Maribou Shrimp pattern. Stalking tailing bonefish is exhilirating because you VERY SLOWLY wade up to where you can see them feeding in the skinny water, with their tail fins sticking out of the water, so you know where to cast. If you are lucky, and they have not been spooked off, or swum away by the time you get close enough, you then get the chance to try and cast the fly 50-70 feet. It is hopefully close enough for them to see without scaring them out of their wits. Getting a fish on is a major adrenaline rush! They run like hell, peeling off up to 300 feet of line at a time in non-stop runs, like mini freight trains screaming across the flat.
Interesting part is that for some reason you don't think about work while doing this....
